Nasi Ayam Penyet
We had takeaway for our dinner last night. It has been a busy and hectic week for us, I was admitted to Columbia Asia for 5 days and wife had to handle on everythings. It was my first time admitted to a hospital and will not going to do that again, hopefully.
Nasi Daging Penyet
So, the restaurant known as Nasi Ayam Penyet Jakarta. Situated in Taman Perling Johor Bahru, they provide home delivery services started from 11am to 9pm. Yin Yang Chicken Platter

Order a mixed portion of roasted chicken and poached chicken to go along with the yellow-tinged rice

There are at least a dozen or so famous names constantly being bandied about when speaking about chicken rice in Ipoh. Being a hotspot for bean sprouts chicken (nga choy gai) in the country, the chicken which is usually poached to retain that smooth texture of the meat, and the accompanying nga choy aka bean sprouts grown from the supply of hard water from the limestone hills in Ipoh are parallel to none.

However, with so many names to pick from (Lou Wong, Onn Kee, Cowan Street and Buntong just to name a few), where does one start to draw the line between good chicken rice and excellent chicken rice?

The more renowned bean sprouts chicken stalls listed above are hot picks amongst the tourists — and locals to some extent; more so for their repertoire of poached chicken, bean sprouts and kuey teow (flat rice noodles; also known as sar hor fun to the locals) but not so for their version of chicken rice.

Char Siew

The spicy and sour "choy geok" and Char Siew are perfect accompaniments to the chicken rice

Now, the line has blurred a little when we mention chicken rice and bean sprouts chicken in the same breath. And let's not drag kai see hor fun stalls (chicken kuey teow soup) into the mix. That gets even more confusing as some of those noodle stalls also offer sides of blanched bean sprouts and poached chicken with soy sauce.

Chicken rice — a staple favourite of Malaysians — can be found in almost every coffee shop in the country, across all the states. Backed by a sturdy Hainanese origin, the conventional chicken rice stall will feature a seller continuously chopping away at the selection of poached and roasted chicken; some also include fancier varieties like sesame chicken into the mix.

The chicken is served on top of rice which is usually cooked with the chicken fats collected from the cooking process, plus a few slices of fresh cucumber and a bowl of soup on the side. You have yourself a power-packed meal. Oh, don't forget the garlic chilli sauce too.

Chicken Rice

Fragrant oiled rice in a beautiful golden yellow hue

Of course, these stalls routinely sell other roasted meats like char siew (BBQ caramelised pork), siew yoke (crispy roasted pork), roast duck, and more to meet the demand for variety.

Chicken rice can be enjoyed any time of the day; some have it for breakfast, most would enjoy this over lunch (being a relatively fast item which can be conveniently taken away) while others go for chicken rice for dinner or supper as well.

A restaurant in the town centre has been passionately staying true to its roots for more than three decades now. Pak Kong Nasi Ayam is still fending off stiff competition from Rasa Sayang Chicken Rice right next door and Lou Wong/Onn Kee just a block away.

Japanese Tofu

The simple steamed Japanese tofu with fried shallots and soy sauce is a crowd favourite especially with the kids

The secret of their success is really simple; delicious and reasonably-priced food, pleasant workers high on the efficiency scale and a rapid turnover of customers at lunch (Pak Kong only opens for lunch daily).

You can browse the dishes available for the day the minute you step foot into the shop, that is if the perpetual line of people patiently waiting for their turn to order for takeaways doesn't intimidate you into making a detour to elsewhere for lunch. If you're dining in, then you can grab a seat; at times you need to share if you're alone or just with a friend. The lady boss will walk over and take your orders, but be prepared to quickly tell her what you want.

The safest choice is, of course, the chicken rice (duh!). If you're sharing, then ask for a plate of yin yang aka half portion of roasted chicken paired with another half portion of poached chicken. Succulent cuts of perfectly cooked chicken (no gory sights of bloodied marrows and uncooked flesh; a common issue with subpar bean sprouts chicken places), doused in a dark sauce and generous handful of chopped scallions and julienned carrots complemented by the fluffy and fragrant yellow-tinted steamed rice infused with chicken oil. If health concerns forbid you from ordering that, they of course offer plain white rice as an alternative.

Sambal Petai

Don't worry about the stink, just enjoy the spicy sambal petai

Don't stop just yet. The other dishes they offer should not be passed off as fillers, unlike at most chicken rice stalls. They serve quality cuts of char siew too; roasted to a caramelised finish and served with a killer sweetish sauce. Don't look down on their version of sambal petai (stink beans) either; the spicy paste has been given a piquant kick and rivals some of the best versions in town.

We complete our feast usually with a serving of greens: the spicy and sour kai choy to be exact. This dish, also unglamorously known as choy geok (remnants of vegetables) is a common sight at chicken rice stalls; maximising the use of "waste" like the spare cuts of chicken and bones which give the stock a flavoursome sweetness paired with fibrous mustard greens, dried chillies and tamarind.

The Japanese tofu steamed in soy sauce and topped with fried shallots may be simple in presentation and execution, but is one of those dishes that please every palate. Even children's. And every serving of chicken rice comes with a bowl of salted vegetables (ham choy) soup, believed to reduce heatiness.

Pak Kong Chicken Rice Ipoh

Be early to avoid the queues of people packing home their chicken rice

Searching for Pak Kong Nasi Ayam along Theatre Street is relatively easy; dead in the centre of town populated by famous eateries and specialty shops like Aun Kheng Lim Salted Chicken (diagonally across the road), Funny Mountain Soya Bean (a few minutes' walk away), Sin Eng Heong's kaya puffs and Ching Han Guan's meat floss biscuits, as well as the prior mentioned Lou Wong and Onn Kee Bean Sprouts Chicken outlets.

Come early for lunch as they open from 11am onwards and operates for a few hours only every day.

Selamat Hari Gawai to those who celebrates.

How do you prefer enjoying your Teh Tarik?

Do you prefer having it hot or cold? I like having it both ways. But when I eat hot and spicy food, The Teh Tarik Peng (cold) must accompany me.

Let me introduce to you my latest favourite of Nasi Ayam Penyet. This is from Chicking Eating House outlet in Kuching. I've tried two outlets, one is at Jalan Petanak and the other one is at Jalan Tun Jugah. I would prefer the outlet at Jalan Petanak. Just besides The Madam Tang's. The service is very good and the food are just marvelous especially Nasi Ayam Penyet. It only cost RM7.80 . Seriously? Yes!

Malay Fried Chicken Rice (<b>Nasi Ayam</b> Goreng Kampung) - The <b>...</b>

Malay Fried Chicken Rice (Nasi Ayam Goreng Kampung)

This is something you should definitely try at least once. Flavorful fried chicken is accompanied with a savory sweet chili sauce and served with white rice steamed in chicken stock and aromatics, with a side of chicken soup to wash it all down. Every single aspect of this meal is a treat to the senses.

Malay Fried Chicken Rice (Nasi Ayam Goreng Kampung)

It is time consuming but you will notice more or less the same ingredients used for the marinade, rice, soup and sauce, so if you have it all prepped and ready to go it's a lot less work than it looks. Don't be intimidated by the sheer quantity of ingredients!

Fernavventura - Ferna&#39;s adventure in food!: Semarang: <b>Nasi Ayam</b> <b>...</b>

Posted: 14 Jun 2014 11:01 PM PDT

I was glad and feel so grateful that the weather was pretty good that day, and early morning means less traffic or I guess Semarang just in general has less traffic than Jakarta. Anyway, went to Nasi Ayam Bu Surip right after my soto. *hold my breath*.

The Place
As you can see, it's a very down to earth place and very relaxing, unless it's raining but they actually start to set up "terpal" to protect us from the weather.

The Food
Wonder what they are selling? All you see is what you can choose. The food itself was pretty good, their coconut milk is fragrant and very rich but light at the same time.

Nasi Ayam - IDR 8k, mine is half portion - IDR 5k
This is one portion, and excuse the pimple :P

Overall Experience
I like how casual the place and friendly the lady. I think she's like "wth this girl doing" cause whenever I took pic, people around me like giving me "...." face. Haha. And food itself was feel so homey and lovely.

Journey to Create History: Food Review : <b>Nasi Ayam</b> Penyet

Nasi Ayam Penyet is my favourite food here in Kota Kinabalu. While the exact location is actually very far from town.

Rumah Makan Daun Pisang (the shop's name) is located at Alamesra, near 1 Borneo Hypermall and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

Right opposite Rumah Makan Daun Pisang (forgot to take picture of this particular shop) is Warung Padang Jawa which sells exactly the same thing. If not mistaken, they are from the same owner or using the same recipe, because we would go to either one of the shop which ever one is closed or too crowded. So, no worries of you going to the wrong shop.

This is their menu, you just order from here. The one really recommended is Nasi Ayam Penyet-larrr!

The setting of the place, it was quite crowded during lunch hour. But, since the dish can be easily prepared, they usually serve you quite fast. Sometimes, they tend to forget, if your food doesn't show up for quite some time, please do remember to remind them.

They even set table outside the shop, it looks quite scruffy, but the food is good. If you looking for a good relaxing environment, this is totally not the place, it can be quite hot in the afternoon.

Present you the Nasi Ayam Penyet! It comes with soup and rice with that same price, RM 7 nett.

 The side dish:
1. the chilies (sambal)
2. the brinjal/eggplant (terung)
3. the cucumber (timun)
4. the cabbage (kubis)
5. the cassava leaves (daun pucuk ubi)
6. the bean paste (tempe)

Depends on the availability of side dish, they usually have it all. Sometimes, sadly, some side dish will gone missing! But, the chilies and the fried chicken will definitely be there! Don't worry!

Spicy level of the chilies (Rating: 9/10). Please be noted that I can really eat spicy food. But, the chilies just enough to make me tear a little, but is definitely recommended for people who like spicy food.

Definitely will visit again! Something to be missed when I leave KK.

Ikan Keli Lalap, if you like fish, you definitely can try this. This picture was not taken on the same day as the others, you can see some missing side dishes. *funny*

Location:

Lorong Plaza Permai 4 Alamesra,
Plaza Utama Phase 2,
Jalan Sulaiman,

NASI GORENG AYAM ( Fried Rice with Chicken)

This is a good, easy, taste of Indonesia.

kecap-manis

Kecap Manis-Sweet Soy sauce

If you have been to Indonesia for a surf trip then you have no doubt had this basic surf trip staple.

Nasi Goreng can be made with just about anything you find in your fridge. It doesn't have to exactly follow this recipe ( except for the garlic, shallots, rice) its just what we had in the fridge. It traditionally does not include a meat mixed in with the rice but  we like it campur campur- all mixed up.

Everything is easy to get, the only thing you might have to look for beyond a regular grocery store is the Kecap Manis- Sweet Soy Sauce. A Trader Joes , Whole Foods or some sort of hippy/co-op market might have it, if you go to a Asian market you will find it there.

The Recipe

Makes enough for 2-4 people

Ingredients:

−1/2 to 1 cup uncooked rice ( use rice cooker if you have one)-Don't use Uncle Bens- use good rice
- 2 eggs
- 3 big shallots (sliced)
- 6 cloves of garlic (sliced)
- 1 small chili (sliced) *optional,
- 1/2 cup of carrot (sliced thinly) *optional, you can change with other vegetables
- 1/2 cup of cabbage (chopped) *optional, you can change with other vegetables
- 1 cup  cooked chicken (chopped)-can be shrimp, tofu, or all vegetables
- 2 tbs oil
- 2-3 tbs sweet soy sauce
- salt and white pepper

Directions

- Heat oil  stir in shallots than garlic and chilli , cook  until half done/golden brown than season it with salt and pepper.
- Add eggs to shallot-garlic-chili and scramble/ when egg is just about done add your  veggies,
- Add chicken and stir it up
- Then add your rice, mix and stir it again.
- Finally add sweet soy-sauce and stir,  cook for 5-10 minutes, keep stirring – add more salt/pepper sweet soy-sauce to taste if needed.

Serve with egg , cucumbers and krupuk (chips).
